Update: April 25... DC Metro Chapter President Vince Smith Stepping Down, No Spring Banquet This Year (An Email from Vince is below)
Pirates, There will be no Pirate Club Spring banquet this year. I must apologize for getting this out late to you. It is something I have struggled with for somre time but the decision was made in my mind some time ago and once I discussed it with Harry Stubbs (our Chapter Alumni President) it was clear.
Now, let me give you a little background to my coming to this decision. In 2005 and 2006 we were fortunate to have Skip Holtz for our Spring Banquets. Both those events were great successes with turn outs of 65 to 70 folks both years. In addition, the local chapter made a few dollars to help with the basic operations throughout the year.
Last year we were unable to secure Skip or any of our head coaches and as one might expect without a name headliner, our banquet suffered. We had a turn out of about 20 Pirates, which we were happy to have and the coaches in attendance were great but it was a marked departure from the two previous years and we lost money.
Before we go any further I want you all to know the buck stops with me in getting our Guest Speaker for the banquet and I obviously did not do the best job I could. Once again, we do not have a top name for our 2008 Spring Banquet. Let me be clear, I believe this is an example of why it is time for my tenure as Chapter President to come to an end.
I took the job in 2004 with the intent of doing the job for 2 years and securing a location for regular viewing of Pirate Football. It took 3 years but we now have that location at Bailey's in Ballston and it is time for me to go for many other reasons as well>
am looking to all you Pirates in the National Capital Region to canvass one another and discuss who you think would be best to be the next Chapter President. It really is time for some fresh and new ideas. In addition, I will be glad to work a smooth transition plan have no intention of rushing the next Chapter president.
Finally, for those of you who have been kind enough to be PC Reps, please ensure your PC renewals are aware of the cancellation if you have not contacted them already (please contact them before 1 May, if you have not). In addition, don't forget to get your Pirate Club dues and Seeason Football ticket orders in before 1 May...
All My best, Vince
GO PIRATES!!!

DC Metro Pirate Club Chapter Is Purchased a brick paver Surrounding the Pirate Statue in Harold H. Bate Plaza
On Saturday, November 11, Chapter President Vince Smith presented a check for $1,000.00 to Mark Wharton, Pirate Club Executive Director to purchase a paver in the name of DC Metro Pirate Club Chapter. These funds were generated by proceeds from our silent and live auction which was held at this year's Spring Banquet. The check will be used to retire long term debt and it augments additional funds which have previously been provided to the Educational Foundation Scholarship Fund.
We encourage each of you, as you are making your 2006 year end, and 2007 tax plans to consider contacting our Pirate Club and purchasing a paver naming yourselves or in honor or memory of someone. Pirates Helping Pirates at its most basic.
